The city of Cusco is the most cosmopolitan in the country, and houses both within the city and its surroundings a series of Inca archaeological complexes due to its condition of having been the capital of the Inca empire, the most important pre-Hispanic culture of this part of the continent.
The Salkantay Trek is our favorite alternative to the Inca Trail. From high passes between snow-capped mountains and glaciers, to the lowland jungle with hot springs and coffee plantations, the Salkantay trek is an exploration of a sacred refuge of the Incas, as well as a physical, cultural and spiritual journey of transformation, like Peru itself!
