The Salkantay Route, also known as the “New Inca Trail”, is the second best option of Tours for those who want to go to Machu Picchu, offering a tour full of totally natural scenarios, passing through the skirts of the imposing Salkantay snowy and colorful villages where the Spanish language is the second language and where the Andean people still maintain their traditions.

This hike reaches a height of 4,600 meters above sea level at its highest point, it is very sunny during the day, but cold at night. The temperature falls below 0 ° C at night during the months of June to September.


Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa (3.850 M.A.S.L)

The Cheap Salkantay Trek start when we pick you up at your hotel, in Cusco, at 4:30 am, from where we will go by bus to Mollepata, expected arrival time approximately 9:00 a.m.

We will have breakfast and start the walk, in about 5 hours we will have arrived in Soraypampa, where we will spend the night in our respective tents

Day 2: Soraypampa – Paso De Salkantay – Challway

We will wake up early and after breakfast we will begin the ascent towards the Salkantay pass, in about 4 hours we will have reached the highest point of the route (4,540m.s.n.m).

After enjoying the beautiful panorama of the mountain of Salkantay and having taken a few photos, we will begin the descent for approximately 4 hours, on the way you will enjoy a beautiful walk, in which you can observe rivers, waterfalls, creeks and picturesque mountains . Then we will arrive at Challway, where we will spend the 2nd night. In which we expect a hot shower, a delicious dinner and good rest.

Day 3: Chaullay – La Playa (Sawayaco) – Santa Teresa (3.850 M.A.S.L)

The next morning, after breakfast, we continue our route to La Playa or Sawayaco, we will walk approximately 5 hours.

When descending we will enter the jungle eyebrow and we will notice the change of the climate, we will have a temperate temperature with enough humidity, therefore, we must take anti-mosquito repellent, to avoid future discomfort.

From La Playa or Sawayaco, we will board a bus to Santa Teresa that will take approximately 45 minutes. In Santa Teresa we will spend the 3rd night, enjoy a pleasant dinner. Later we will have a party around a campfire.

Day 4: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

On the 4th day, after breakfast we begin our trek, we will cross the Urubamba River, after breakfast we start our 4th day, we will cross the Urubamba River and in about 4 hours we will have arrived at the Hydroelectric.

From here we have two options to get to Aguas Calientes (base to spend our last night in a hotel, enjoy its beautiful streets, and if you wish you can go to the thermal baths USD $ 4).

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu. Cusco

After breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel at 05:30 to go to the bus station where we will take a bus to the citadel of Machupicchu, here we will have a guided tour of 2 1/2 h. approximately, then they will have free time to visit the city on their own and take all the photos they want

Return to the town of Aguas Calientes.

Then they will take the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo where a transport will wait for them to take them to their hotel.

How many days do I need to acclimatize in Cusco before my Cheap Salkantay Trek?

How is the weather in Salkantay?

Salkantay has two seasons, rainy season (November-March) and dry season (April-October).

During the rainy season the temperature of the day is around 15 degrees, at night 5 degrees around.

During the dry season the weather is sunny with a temperature of 20 degrees during the day, but it is colder at night, around minus 3 degrees.

After the second day of lunch, we enter the jungle where the weather changes to hot and humid.

What kind of clothes do I need to wear?
